It goes without saying or arguing that Taylor Swift has achieved her accolades and success deservedly so. However, the selection of Swift as Time magazine’s Person of the Year simply dilutes the whole representation of what this honour is about. Gracing Time’s Person of the Year cover is tantamount to Rolling Stone magazine gracing its cover with Elon Musk or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducting Jeff Bezos. I listen to and enjoy Taylor Swift’s obvious talent and hope for her continued success, however blurring the lines of prestigious honours will confuse and lessen the achievements of past influential persons. What’s next for Taylor Swift, maybe a Nobel for 2024?

(TIME has lost its cache, so take this accolade for what it’s worth.)

Hot air

Our prime minister and Environmental Minister are now going after cattle! Do they expect ranchers and farmers to install methane meters on each cow so they can be taxed accordingly? If I were a company making baked beans I’d be a little worried!

Stan Currie

(Something is sure bubbling up on the issue.)

Campus chaos

I was amazed and shocked after reading Victor Davis Hansen’s article on the reasons for the pro-Hamas demonstrations and anti-Israel sentiment on U.S. college campuses. Now, could he please explain the reasons for similar stupidity on Canadian university campuses?

Sheldon Rudolph

(The reasons would be similar. But in Canada, we are doing little to nothing about it. Shut them down, act!)

Fine them

I propose a million-dollar fine on any Liberal caught using fossil fuels. Maybe after having to pay a few of the fines, they might see how they are screwing everyone out of their money. This has to come out of their pockets, not taxpayers. Or, they could resign and get a real job. Take it to a referendum — along with whether or not Canadians want the CBC gone.

David Johnston

(We are certain these issues will be front and center in the next federal election)
