The newly minted president of the Treasury Board, Anita Anand, was recently quoted describing her new cabinet job: “We are in charge of prudently managing taxpayer dollars.”

Upon checking the calendar, I found that April Fools’ Day is seven months away. The painful joke is on Canadians, though.

(The Trudeau Liberals and “prudent management” are not two things that coincide)

Victory over acid rain

Re “Opposing the Liberals isn’t climate denial” (Editorial, Aug. 21): Conservatives had a great track record in fixing an environmental problem without breaking the bank.

Back when acid rain was a threat, the Conservative prime minister at the time, Brian Mulroney, worked with the Republican president, George H.W. Bush. Together, they introduced a cap-and-trade system that limits the amount of acid rain-causing pollutants and provides incentives for industries to reduce their emissions.

Today, we can comfortably forget about the problem of acid rain without an economic collapse due to acid rain regulations. Why aren’t the Conservatives of today celebrating this?

GAVIN MILL

(They absolutely should)

Thanks, Mike!

Thank you Mike Drew for your weekly reprieve from the madness that is life in 2023. And thank you for reminding us what an amazing little part of this messed up country we live in.

Keep that shutter clicking!

BOB BARNES

(It is a bright spot in our week, too!)

Time to change

People all across this land now realize what a disaster Justin Trudeau, the Trudeau Liberal Party and their stalwart cohort Jagmeet Singh are and what damage they have imposed on Canadians. It is incumbent on Pierre Poilievre and the responsible opposition MPs to find a way to dump Trudeau, dump the carbon tax and let our lives begin once again.

DAVID HUGHES

(We are pretty sure the next election will be very telling.)
